R438A, also marketed under trade names like MO99, is a non-ozone-depleting HFC refrigerant blend formulated to serve as a direct retrofit for R22 in existing air conditioning and refrigeration systems. It contains a blend of R-32, R-125, R-134a, R-600, and R-601a, offering similar cooling capacity and operating pressures to R22 while eliminating the need for major component changes during conversion.
Designed to simplify the transition away from R22, R438A is compatible with existing mineral oil, alkylbenzene, and POE lubricants, often allowing retrofits without a complete oil flush.
